Why Maxsurf in Education?

The main reasons why Maxsurf has such a good reputation as a supporting tool for learning the principles of Naval Architecture:

1. Naval Architecture Software

Maxsurf is a unique software package specifically developed for the purpose of designing, fairing and analysing ships. In Maxsurf for example, there are tools to set the fwd and aft perpendicular, find the baseline and you work with surfaces that are mirrored across the centreline by default. It is also important to mention that the combination of Maxsurf and its downstream analyses modules is used world wide by naval architects in the workplace.

Maxsurf's development and support team consists of several Naval Architects.

2. Graphical User Interface & Feedback

All modules in the Maxsurf suite share the same Windows user interface making it very easy to learn the software. This means that students are not distracted by learning how to use the tool, but can get straight into design and develop an understanding of the principles of stability, resistance and seakeeping. In Hydromax, you can view the analyses whilst it is being performed. This supports the student's understanding of for example free-to-trim large angle heel analysis. Another example is the instantaneous damage equilibrium analyses results where you can see the results of different damage scenarios on screen.
